Dr. Varr has over 20 years of ophthalmic experience, specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. Experience and knowledge are what sets Dr. Varr apart and what gives his patients the utmost confidence and sense of security.

EDUCATION | TRAINING

Dr. Varr is a graduate of Columbia College and received his medical degree from New York Medical College. He served in the US Army as Chief of Ophthalmology and Flight Surgeon at US Aeromedical Center, Ft. Rucker, AL from 1988-1992. During this time, he was a member of the Army Aviation Medicine Board of Review while serving as the Clinical Instructor for the US Army Flight Surgery School and Advisor to the US Army Surgeon General for Aviation Ophthalmology. His experience has been recognized with the US Army Achievement Medal and US Army Meritorious Service medal.

MEMBERSHIPS | AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Varr has served as President of Rhode Island Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (2004-2006) and continues to be a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Medical Association, and the Rhode Island Medical Society. Dr. Varr’s hobbies include breeding and showing Portuguese Water Dogs, long-distance sailing, hunting, shooting sports, and skiing.
