Dr. Alfred Lovato, Jr. Is a board certified fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive eye surgery.
Dr. Lovato is a New Mexico native, and his family has been providing quality Eyecare to New Mexicans since 1963 when his father Alfred Lovato, Sr., opened his optical shop in Albuquerque’s South Valley.
In his spare time Dr. Lovato enjoys golfing, skiing and spending time with his family. Dr. Lovato is especially honored to perform refractive surgery on patients and their families his family has taken care of for generations.
EDUCATION | TRAINING
Dr. Lovato received the Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of California at Berkeley. He then earned the Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of New Mexico. After serving his internship at UCLA / Harbor General Medical Center in California. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Boston University Medical center in Massachusetts. He then completed his fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco under world-renowned ocular oncology specialist, Devron Char, MD.

Dr. Lovato has been in private practice in Albuquerque since 1990. He is a member of numerous professional associations in medicine and ophthalmology including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
