Common question: What are the prerequisites for LASIK Candidacy?
Fact is, most glasses and contact lens wearers are candidates for LASIK
Due to advancements in Modern, Custom LASIK technology and surgeons’ skills, most people are medically safe candidates for the procedure. Even if you have an astigmatism, a high prescription, or have even discovered that you have an intolerance to or damage from contact lens wear, chances are we have a solution tailored to your individual vision correction needs.
Some of the eligibility requirements for LASIK surgery candidates include:
- Age – you do need to be at least 18 years of age to be a candidate for LASIK
- Prescription Stability – your prescription should be relatively stable, without significant changes for about a year
- Certain eye diseases and conditions like keratoconus, severe cataracts or amblyopia, and active infections may make you a temporary or permanent non-candidate for LASIK
Common question: What is Bladeless LASIK & How is it Different From Traditional LASIK?
Traditional LASIK eye surgery uses a microkeratome containing a thin blade to create a hinged corneal flap prior to the laser reshaping of the cornea. Modern, Custom LASIK had replaced this blade with a femtosecond laser for the flap creation. Laser flap creation is more precise than the microkeratome and clinical studies have shown an increase in 20/20 or better outcomes.
Benefits of laser flap creation and bladeless LASIK:
- Greater predictability of flap thickness and thinner flaps allow more patients to be candidates
- Reduced incidence of flap complications caused by microkeratome
- Faster recovery with most patients returning to work and normal activities the day after bladeless LASIK

The staff at the center walked me through the procedure and even my surgeon provided information to all patients waiting to go “under the laser”. If you are on the fence, don’t be.
