Dr. Ghajar (Ghajarnia) grew up in Pennsylvania where he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPMC), during which he did neuro-ophthalmic research at UCLA. He did his internship at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore where he rotated and conducted research at the Johns Hopkins’ Wilmer Eye Center. He then completed his residency at the UPMC Eye and Ear Institute and began his journey west by completing a surgically intensive fellowship in Cornea & Refractive Surgery at the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center. Dr. Ghajar is one of the few fellowship trained refractive and LASIK surgeons in Fresno, and has been performing laser correction surgery since 2007. In his private practice, he focuses on the management of corneal and ocular surface diseases and he performs corneal transplantation using the latest techniques including sutureless transplantation (DSAEK). In addition, Dr. Ghajar is an experienced cataract surgeon and performs standard and refractive cataract surgery using the latest premium intraocular lens (IOL) technology. Dr. Ghajar is on staff at St. Agnes Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Fresno Community, and the Veteran’s Administration hospitals, providing care to a diverse patient population including those with serious ocular trauma.
He is active in introducing novel treatment techniques such as having conducted the first artificial cornea prosthesis transplant and telescopic lens implantation in Fresno at the California Eye Institute. He also is one of the few pioneering cataract surgeons who introduced laser assisted cataract surgery to the Central Valley in 2011. He is a board certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Ghajar likes traveling and humanitarian medical service. He enjoys volunteering his time to international ophthalmic missions and has contributed to projects in places such as Honduras, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Nepal, Tajikistan, as well as locally in Fresno. He is married and
enjoys Fresno’s climate and diversity, and has worked with LVI since 2013.
