LASEK - Laser Eye Surgery Procedure

If your laser eye surgeon determines that your corneas are too thin, then LASEK eye surgery (or laser epithelial keratomileusis) might be an option to consider. LASEK is a relatively new laser eye surgery procedure that combines elements of PRK and LASIK, and LASEK may offer some advantages over both.

Your LASEK eye doctor during the surgery will create a flap in the clear outermost layer of your eye and will preserve the clear layer as a flap instead of wiping it away. The margin of safety during the eye surgery procedure with LASEK may be greater than that with LASIK as the need for a microkeratome is eliminated, so there's no risk of flap complications.

LASEK eye surgery removes tissue within the cornea to treat low to high levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. This will maintain the integrity of your corneas and will provide a quicker recovery than PRK.
