Jeffrey D. Gold, MD is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist with over thirty years’ experience in eye medicine and surgery and special expertise in laser vision correction. After receiving his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Between 1990 and 1997, he trained in refractive and laser surgery with two leaders in the field based in Salt Lake City, UT. Soon after the FDA approval of the Excimer Laser in 1995, he began performing laser vision correction in one of the first two laser centers in the United States to offer the procedure. Between 1997 and 2000, he was instrumental in the development of the Yale Eye Laser Center as a member of both its Organizational Board and then its Medical Advisory Board.
Dr. Gold is fully certified on the NIDEK, VISX, and SUMMIT lasers. He has performed over 8000 Laser Vision Correction procedures, the vast majority being LASIK. The latest additions at Liberty Vision (his Connecticut practice) are CustomVue correction utilizing the VISX Star S4 Excimer Laser with Flying Spot and Tracking technology and Iris Registration; and Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), the use of radio frequency energy to correct presbyopia or the need for reading glasses.
He was the first National Medical Director of TruVision and the only Connecticut provider certified to treat TruVision patients (all of whom are Anthem Blue Cross or HealthNet members.)
As a former faculty member of the ophthalmology departments of both Yale University and the University of Utah, he has authored and presented original research on laser eye surgery.

experience dates back to 1996. Dr. January is a board certified ophthalmic surgeon with memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee and completing his ophthalmology residency at Emory University. Dr. January helped found refractive surgery centers throughout the southeast (Orlando, Atlanta, Greenville, Nashville, Biloxi, Houston, San Antonio and El Paso).

He earned his degree from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington D.C., where he was at the top of his class and the youngest graduating physician. After completing his internship at the Washington Hospital Center, he received his ophthalmology training through Harvard University's Lancaster course in ophthalmology and then at the University of New York at Stonybrook.
Dr. Joseph also completed additional fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery, becoming one of the first fully fellowship trained LASIK surgeons in the world. Dr. Rajesh Rangaraj, M.D. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and specializes in refractive surgery using the latest in wavefront analysis to reduce the dependency on glasses. Dr. Rangaraj also uses newer techniques like conductive keratoplasty (CK) to reduce the dependency of reading glasses.
Dr. Rangaraj is a highly respected LASIK surgeon who has performed over 10,000 surgeries. He graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He went on to finish his medical school and ophthalmology residency training at Ohio State University and interned at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. A cum laude graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Stewart Shofner attended medical school at the University of Virginia, served his residency at Yale University, and was a corneal fellow at Louisiana State University (one of the world's premiere schools of ophthalmology). While at LSU, Dr. Shofner assisted in the treatment of the first fully-sighted laser surgery patients in the United States.
As a cornea specialist, Dr. Shofner has performed over 35,000 LASIK surgeries and other refractive procedures, as well as cataract extractions and cornea transplants. He also provides general and emergency eye care and is experienced in Surgical Reversal of Presbyopia (SRP).
